The past couple months have been a bit of a whirlwind... housesitting/dogsitting/teenage boy "babysitting"... moving, new job, sparrow babies at the front door... unpacking/cleaning...
My goodness.

Life seems to be this constant battle to find balance, right? Which is tough in a new job, new house, new step of life. Different schedules everyday for both me and himself. Some nights I get finished at work around 10 or 10:30 and I'm not going to lie last night was one of those nights and I got a milkshake and curry chips on my way home. Absolutely yummy.

I'm going above and beyond on this post because I haven't been awesome at it the past couple of months. So I have a favorite recipe, one that looks quick and delicious, comfort food, and another that himself is begging me to make and is my friend Zach's favorite dinner.

A nice summer evening

Every summer we love to have barbecues.

Our favourites are filled mushrooms and peppers.

For the filling I use cream cheese and feta. Spice it with chilli, salt and pepper, a little bit of spicy mustard and lemon juice (or lemon zest). They are best on the grill but you can also make them in the oven.

The side dish are often baked potatoes with rosemary and thyme. Or you use some sage and thyme. Also don't forget the garlic and olive oil ( and of course some love :) ) Bake them for 40 minutes at 150 °C.

You take some really thin bacon stripes and put them like a cross.  In the middle of the cross you spread some honey and fig mustard. Then you add goats cheese or feta cheese and again spread honey and fig mustard on top. Then you just wrap in the bacon. Grill it in a aluminium bowl ( the one without holes you use for barbecues).

Enjoy your next summer day (maybe even with my recipes),

Spicy News! ( Not really)

Hello Everybody,

big news! Tomorrow I am going back to Berlin and look for a new place to live. I am really excited because there are lovely rooms out there. Wish me luck!

Anyway here is one of my favourite recipes: Canned spiced cherries!

So I picked many many cherries from our garden and washed them.

wash with water

Fill them in a clean glass
(my dad helped me)

Now add some spices like cinnamon or cloves. I broke one cinnamon stick in pieces and added some to the glasses. Also I took one clove per glass.

I think I used two sticks for 12 glasses

After that you need to mix one liter water with 400g sugar and bring it to boil.
You can add a dash of lime juice and a bit red wine if you want to. You pour the sugar water into the glass until they are full to the very top. Don't be too greedy. Now you just put the lit on it.
It would be nice if that's it but you still need to preserve it so they don't go bad after a while.

I used my Mom's big canning pot but you can also do it with a pan in the oven. Make sure they don't touch each other or the wall of the pot/pan. I also put a grid under them so they don't touch directly the ground.
You need to fill the pot/pan with water so that the classes are covered until three quarters with it.
If you have a pot with which you are canning already you probably know how it works. If you don't you might want to look it up somewhere. I just realised I really miss the words to explain it in proper english.
Anyway you boil it for 30 minutes with 80°C.

My mom's pot

Here are the glasses in the pot

Here they are: canned cherries with spices

Spicy cherries are really tasty with ice cream :) Probably this was a super confusing post but just go ahead and ask me stuff. I can try to explain it again to you.

Elderflower Love

That's the thing with our blog:

While Joanna is enjoying the sun over there in Ireland, the weather here in Berlin is just AWFUL!! It is raining and it's cold and grey and I really don't want to leave the flat. Also I am supposed to study because I have exams in 11 days (Ahhhh, wish me luck!!).
But I have to say a week ago it was just beautiful and warm. So I went outside and picked elder flowers and made some sirup with it.  The elder was surrounded by nettels and I burnt my legs really bad but it was totally worth it.
I also used lemons from this really great Turkish super market (my favourite grocery store in whole Berlin)

So here is a "Something" surrounded by my plants:

The labels I used are from Joanne. It was part of my leaving gift when I left Ireland.

(Leave a comment if you want the recipe!)

Sarah

Flowers Forever

I have actually been working on this project for a while.  As I take walks several times each week, I pick flowers, dry them, and add them to other projects I've done around the house for added color and fun!
